What is Web Development?
Web development is a broad term that incorporates all areas of developing or creating a web site for the World Wide Web.
Web development includes Web design (graphic design, XHTML, CSS, usability and semantics), programming, server administration, content management, marketing, testing and deployment. Web development can also specifially be used to refer to the "back end", that is, programming and server administration. There are usually more than one member that works on a given Web Development team, each specialising in his or her own field.
What does Web Development include?
At Intoweb Design the development of a web site refers to both the graphic and funcitonal side of a web site. Web design is the design or designing of a web page, website or web application. The term generally refers to the graphical side of web development using images, and HTML.
Programming or dynamic pages can be added to the web site to link it to databases and create interesting interface features. Web development connects the interface to any applications or databases that reside deeper in the product.
Most applications have a back-end and a front-end and use the database as a back-end. Back-end and front-end are expressions that describe programs relative to the user.
A back-end program supports the front-end services and tasks not directly controlled by the user. When building a database a programmer sets the "invisible structure" of the information displayed in the front end.
A front-end program is one that users interact with directly. The front-end is responsible for collecting input from the user, which can be in a variety of forms, and processing it in such a way that it conforms to a specification that the back-end can use.
